Townshippers’ Association seeks nominations for the 11th annual Outstanding Townshippers Awards, deadline April 16.
The Outstanding Townshippers awards highlight contributions made to the life of the Eastern Townships English-speaking community. They aim to recognize fresh approaches and creativity in community service as well as long-term dedication.
“This is our chance as a community to identify, discover and celebrate those who have contributed massively during their lives to the Townships' English-speaking community,” commented Michael van Lierop, President of the Association. “This is not just about ‘celebrity volunteerism’; it's about bringing out the best of our community, those unsung heroes, and give them the limelight for a change. The banquet and awards ceremony are full of emotion and memories that everyone can appreciate.”
Nominations are invited from a variety of fields: health and social services, recreation and livable communities, volunteerism and education. The selected Outstanding Townshippers for 2010 are to be honoured at the 31st Anniversary Awards Banquet on Friday, June 4. The Association’s annual general meeting and Young Townships Leaders Awards are also planned for that date.
The 2009 recipients were Alice Gunhouse of Dunham, Denis Palmer of Sawyerville, Maureen Quigg of Lennoxville, Judith Ross of Magog, and Martha Shufelt of Brigham.
Nomination forms are available on the Association’s website at www.townshippers.qc.ca/C-outstanding.aspx or by contacting Kate Wisdom, Community and Culture Coordinator at the Knowlton office at 450-242-4421 (1-877-242-4421) or kw@townshippers.qc.ca.
