The Eastern Townships offers a varied and active cultural life in both French and English, encompassing theatre, visual arts, music, heritage attractions and museums, news media, sports, educational institutions and more. Dance

Dance troupes include Rainbow Country Cloggers in Waterville, Square dancers, Highland dancers; Irish dance in Richmond, and Brome Squares in Lac Brome.

Beaux Arts presents free classical concerts at The Old Brick Church in Brome.

Sur la Scène Davignon presents concerts at the Emmanuel United Church, Cowansville, and has an office at Maison Bruck, Cowansville.

There are many annual music festivals such as the one in Stanbridge East (Country), Sherbrooke (Fête des Lacs des Nations, Blues Festival), Cowansville Music Festival (Musique En Vue), Gould (Celtic), Potton Multicultural Festival in Mansonville, Waterloo (Bluegrass), Knowlton Festival of Lights (Christmas).

The Tour Des Arts hosts musical events (Sutton, http://www.tourdesarts.com). Townshippers' Day hosts musicians from the region (http://www.tday.ca). The county fairs engage musical acts and there are many venues for live music. Several coffee houses and jam sessions take place on a regular basis in Stanbridge East (Coffee House), Knowlton (Second Sundays at 7), Waterloo (Waterloo Bluegrass Society), Bury (United Church) and Lennoxville (Church St Café).

News Media

A regional daily newspaper, The Record, is published in Sherbrooke. It is the only English daily in Quebec outside Montreal: http://www.sherbrookerecord.com

A weekly English newspaper, The Stanstead Journal, is published in Stanstead: http://www.stanstead-journal.com and a bilingual weekly newspaper, The Guide, is published in Cowansville.

Monthly or quarterly English or bilingual newspapers include The Townships Sun in Lennoxville (http://www.qcna.org/sun/), The Outlet in Magog, The Tempo in Lac Brome, and Le Tour in Sutton (http://www.sunnymead.org/letour).

A community radio station, CJMQ at 88.9 FM, 103.9 FM Cable, broadcasts to the Eastern Townships listening area: Listen live over the Internet at  http://www.cjmq.fm. A non-profit organization with no paid positions, CJMQ boasts over 30,000 listeners. They cover breaking news stories live, and broadcast public announcements as well as school closings etc.

Social Groups

Social clubs, church groups, community choirs, writers groups, dance groups, historical societies, Women's Institutes, women’s centres, Oddfellows, Optimists, Lion's, Masons, and Kiwanis clubs, 4H clubs, cultural committees, focus groups for children from birth to adolescence, senior's clubs, arts and crafts groups, sports and fitness groups, University Women's Club, parents committees, Scouting and Guiding Associations. Sports

The Eastern Townships is famous for its recreation and leisure activities. Cycling the many trails and mountains, golf, kayaking, horseback riding, skiing and so much more are available. The Townships is no stranger to competitive sports, either. Two colleges and universities offer some exciting sporting events, including football, basketball, skiing, volleyball, soccer, track and field, rugby and lacrosse. Local competitive and fun leagues are popular as well. For children, there are many teams and clubs to choose from. Mini soccer, hockey, and baseball are very popular, but so are many other sports.

Theatre

Bishop's University Centennial Theatre, http://www.ubishops.ca, offers a year-round arts program. In addition, the Bishop’s University Drama department presents throughout the school year, either on the main Centennial stage or in the Studio theatre, a smaller, more intimate black box venue: http://www.ubishops.ca/ccc/div/hum/dra/index.html

Theatre Lac Brome at Arts Knowlton, http://www.theatrelacbrome.ca and Townships Stage at The Piggery http://www.townshipsstage.com offer a professional program of shows. Theatre Lac Brome has been operating since 1988. Now Theatre Lac Brome runs Arts Knowlton which operates year-round as a community art centre and the program includes visual art, dance, music and community theatre in both English and French. The Piggery http://piggery.com/ has operated as a summer theatre since 1965 and is situated in a rural setting approximately 5 minutes from the town of North Hatley at 215, chemin Simard. Theatre Lac Brome has been operating since 1988. Now Theatre Lac Brome runs Arts Knowlton, which operates year-round as a community art centre. The program includes visual art, dance, music and community theatre in both languages.
