Open Doors, New Insights
March 10, 2010

Townshippers’ Association has several events coming up in March, proof positive that March Madness lives again! Let us count them:
On Saint Patrick’s Day, Wednesday March 17, Townshippers’ Montérégie-East office in Knowlton throws open its doors, and puts on a very expressive and green celebration.
On Tuesday March 23 in Cowansville and on Wednesday March 24 in Lennoxville, a one-day symposium offers new insights into demographics and health determinants relevant to the Townships English-speaking minority.
On Friday March 26 in Sherbrooke, a group of Make Way for YOUth participants make their way together to the giant Priorité-emploi job fair – if you are age 18-35, this informative expedition is open to YOU.
On Saturday and Sunday March 27-28 in the Hameau Oasis, Dunham, the Townshippers Youth Council puts on an epic spring Round-Up – if you are young, this is for you.
That’s not to mention various workshops, videoconferences, Outstanding Townshippers and Young Townships Leaders awards nominations and the P. I. Townships contest in progress. Something for young and old and in-between, and all a glorious part of March Madness. Shake the snow off your boots and get moving!
Here’s more about the Open House and New Insights events.
OPEN HOUSE AND EXPRESSIONS RECEPTION
All are invited to Townshippers’ Association’s annual Open House in the Montérégie-East part of the Townships, combined with a reception for Townships Expressions: Books, Music and More from the Eastern Townships, featuring Keith Whittal and Gail Klinck.
Whittal and Klinck, Townships Expressions participants, will rouse us with songs from their new CD and a few o’ the Irish variety as well. The new Taproot IV will be on sale, and staff members will be present to answer questions or just chat. There’ll be something to nibble on, music to hum along to, ready ears to listen. And remember, everyone’s Irish! Wear the colours!
It bursts into action on Saint Patrick’s Day, Wednesday March 17, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., at Townshippers’ branch office, 584 Knowlton Road, Knowlton.

NEW INSIGHTS
Townshippers’ Association cordially invites you to attend a one-day symposium entitled NEW INSIGHTS: Eastern Townships English-speaking Community. The program will encompass health promotion and demographic research relevant to the Eastern Townships English-speaking minority and various health determinants – the building blocks of a vital community.
What are health determinants? Factors which help determine our state of health - education, employment, environment, income or social support, for example.
In the Montérégie East, this symposium is planned for Tuesday, March 23, at the Day’s Inn, Cowansville. In the Estrie, it is to take place on Wednesday, March 24, at Bishop’s University, Lennoxville.
Each symposium will feature two presentations, a poster session and facilitated discussion. Natalie Kishchuk, Ph.D., will present the results of her recent research, entitled Health Promotion and Health Determinants Initiatives for the Townships English-speaking Community.
William Floch, Manager of the Research Team for the Official-Language Programs Support Branch, Canadian Heritage, will present new analyses based on 2006 census data, The Demographic Evolution of the English-speaking Population of the Eastern Townships.
The poster session will showcase best practices and research relevant to health promotion for the Townships English-speaking community. The discussions will focus on priorities for adapting health promotion initiatives for the English-speaking minority. In order to encourage a cross-fertilization of ideas, approaches and concerns, we are also inviting “ambassadors” from other parts of the Townships to attend each symposium.
These symposia mark the beginning of a three-year Eastern Townships Health Promotion project, carried out by Townshippers’ Association and supported by the Community Health and Social Services Network and Health Canada, as well as the collaboration of our many partners in the Eastern Townships.
Pre-registration is required. Because space is limited, we encourage you to respond this week. Please do not hesitate to contact Townshippers’ Association for registration details.
By the way, every part of this March Madness comes to you fully pre-paid. So enjoy!
