NO ORDINARY NIGHT IN GEORGEVILLE: OF AGM, ARTS, AWARDS AND APPETITES

May 26, 2010

The evening of Friday, June 4, will be a very memorable one for Townshippers. Why, you ask? It is Townshippers’ Association’s AGM, of course. And there is a great a variety on the menu. A veritable smorgasbord guaranteed to appeal to even the most discerning of tastes. Just take a look at everything that is being served up:

PHOTO EXHIBIT AND RECEPTION
The evening gets underway with a 5-à-7-style reception at Sudio Georgeville, 20 Carré Copp in Georgeville. The reception will recognize the creative efforts of participants of both the Picture My Region Photo Contest and the Townships P.I. contests. The Photo Contest invited youth in secondary levels 4 and 5 to pick up their cameras, capture the spirit and energy of their home region in pictures, and write a short accompanying text. The Townships P.I. contest invited young sleuths in grades 5 and 6 to investigate a story about something that happened here, in the past, and write an illustrated short story about it.

Come and encourage the creative efforts of our budding photographers and authors. All entries to both contests will be on display. Admission is free. Our Annual General Meeting takes place under the same roof, so while you are on hand why not join us.

AGM - SHORT AND SWEET AND TO BE SAVOURED
Question: How do you pack so many of the right ingredients into a span of only half an hour? Answer: Nobody knows. Granted, it is no easy feat, but Townshippers' Association aims to pull it off! From 5:30 to 6 p.m., members will receive the annual financial statements, choose an auditor, elect board members, and be formally introduced to the new executive director, Ingrid Marini. You will also get the scoop on all the projects and initiatives the Association has undertaken in the past year including news from the Townshippers Youth Council, Make Way for YOUth project and the With Repect to Our Elders project. Rumour has it that another Intergenerational Cookie Contest might be just around the corner. We did warn you, this will be a sweet AGM! Townshippers’ Association members in good standing are invited to participate. Admission to the reception and AGM is free, and so are the refreshments. Please make every effort to join us – the Association needs you!

THE AWARDS BANQUET
With your appetite sufficiently whetted from the reception and AGM, join us as we cross the village green to Murray Memorial Hall on 4680 Georgeville Road. The Awards Banquet will be an intergenerational event this year with both Outstanding Townshippers and Young Townships Leaders being honoured at the same time. Outstanding Townshippers Awards highlight contributions made to the life of the Eastern Townships English-speaking community. Young Townships Leaders Awards recognise the young leaders of the Eastern Townships English-speaking community. Come and join us salute the outstanding contributions of this year's leaders.

And did we mention food? Naturally, to satisfy all tastes, it will be a sumptuous buffet. Please bring your own libations. The Awards Banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

HOW TO GET THERE
From either Montreal or Sherbrooke on Highway 10, take Exit 118 and go south on chemin Rivière aux Cerises (Route 141) for about 4 kms until you cross Principale St. (Route 112) in Magog. Continue straight on Route 247 South for 18 kms until you reach Studio Georgeville.

This far-from-ordinary evening in Georgeville starts at 5 p.m. on Friday June 4. There will be so much to see and enjoy. Banquet tickets cost $28 per person. Please bring your own libations.
