SUMMARY:LENNOXVILLE VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE JOB FAIR
DESCRIPTION:Students in the Professional Sales program at the Lennoxville Vocational Training Centre (LVTC) have organized a job fair. The event will take place Tuesday June 5\, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm\, at the Lennoxville Vocational Training Centre\, 1700 College\, Sherbrooke. In order to prepare for the event\, students analyzed the market for job fairs in order to choose which businesses they would approach. This also allowed them to establish a fee structure for participating businesses\, which would help to make the event self-supporting. Students also developed a marketing plan in order to attract potential job seekers. This project has given students the opportunity not only to learn theoretical concepts of organizing and marketing an event\, but also to put them into practice. Time management skills were put to the test as students learned how to organize a large event. After the initial planning\, students contacted local businesses to offer them the chance to participate\, both to fill current vacancies and to build a bank of future candidates. The event will also give local employers a useful tool in their ongoing search for qualified personnel. The centre offers nine accredited programs leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies\, including: Machining Techniques\, Welding and Fitting\, Accounting\, Secretarial Studies\, Health Assistance and Nursing\, Assistance to Patients in Health Facilities\, Home Care Assistance\, Professional Sales\, and Representation. Students at the Lennoxville Vocational Training Centre benefit from highly qualified bilingual teachers. The recently renovated centre boasts modern equipment and a cordial family atmosphere. Those interested in more information about the centre\, or to learn how to be a "student for a day" can visit the website at www.lvtc.ca. The site also provides information about the Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC)\, and Services to Business. A different direction...a different life! 819-566-JOBS (5627) For more information and a list of exhibitors contact: Francois Houde 819-563-5627\, extension 45076

Mineola busybody Mildred Carson (Sarah Hoblyn)\, who is not a day younger than 50 and dimwitted Bubba Bedford (Alan Kezber) are cast as the title characters. Naomi Farkle Carson (Karina Chadwick)\, owner of the Bee-Luv-Lee Beauty Salon\, insists on contributing some new dialogue\, while begrudgingly agreeing to portray Juliet’s mother. Luther Carson (Edward Kezber)\, owner of Luther’s Lube ’N Tune\, plays Benvolio and local pig farmer Delbert Fink (Arthur Kilkelly) is the set-builder for the show. Meanwhile\, Violet Farkle (Helga Loverseed)\, the only person in Mineola with any sense\, is attempting to direct the production\, only to discover on opening night that the actors don’t know their lines\, the set isn’t finished and nobody seems to be able to silence a dog that keeps barking offstage. This is "Bill" Shakespeare as he never meant it to be (or not to be...)! Surplus after expenses goes to the Community Association of Georgeville. For further information\, please call John Hoblyn at (819) 843-0886 or email trevecca@axion.ca.

SUMMARY:Foreman Art Gallery Special Event: How Could We Build Systems of Value in Culture?
DESCRIPTION:The Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University is pleased to invite the public to meet Montreal collective Artivistic\, who will facilitate a discussion on the concept of values within the cultural sector on February 28 at 7 p.m. at ArtFocus. The goal of the evening is to uncover and discuss what lies behind art\, activism and knowledge production in order to see what the place of the cultural worker is in our society today. This will be an occasion for all to address the pertinent question: What value do cultural workers have today in the midst of a crumbling economy? This special event is meant to bring together cultural workers from Sherbrooke and its immediate area to collectively visualize our concerns for the future of cultural work in the region. The discussion will take place primarily in French. The collective Artivistic emerged in Montreal in 2004 as an "evention" (a hybrid between event\, invention and intervention) facilitating a much-needed alternative space for the discussion of political and creative action on the periphery of academia. It was created with the proposition that not only artists should talk about art\, academics about theory\, and activists about activism. They desire to build a space of exchange\, analysis and experimentation for "artist-organizers" drawing on self-organized\, collaborative and distributed networks. For more information\, please contact Yael Filipovic\, Curator\, Education & Cultural Action\, at 819.822.9600 ext. 2279 or artlab@ubishops.ca
