Sherbrooke December 4, 2009

Supporting local writers and musicians is no hardship at all when they produce such beautiful work.

NEW this year: Taproot IV: Poetry, Prose and Images of the Eastern Townships. This is the fourth edition of the Taproot anthology begun 10 years ago during Townshippers’ Association’s 20th anniversary celebrations. It is replete with fiction, non-fiction, poetry, photography and original artwork by Townships writers, photographers and artists. Funny, inspiring, endearing, sobering and just plain fun – this book has it all!

In the musical category, Over the Bridge by Michael Ayles features a mix of instrumental pieces both traditional and more recent compositions. You will hear Michael on voice, flute and banjo, as well as Yann Falquet (guitar), David Clark (fiddle) and Paddy League (bodhran).

Also new this fall is Matthew Farfan’s third book The Vermont-Quebec Border: Life on the Line. It is a visual record of life in the villages, towns, and countryside in a unique part of the world – the region that spans the imaginary line separating Quebec from Vermont.

Then there’s Mike Goudreau, who picked up his first guitar at age 14 and hasn't stopped playing since. His diverse musical interests help to explain why Mike is so comfortable in so many musical genres, especially jazz and blues. Mike Goudreau & The Boppin’ Blues Band has a number of CDs available through Townships Expressions.

Currently, about 140 writers, poets, visual artists and musicians participate in Townships Expressions. Their English and bilingual books, CDs, cards, prints and calendars are available at the head office of Townshippers’ Association (257 Queen Street, Lennoxville) 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, or at the Association’s Montérégie-East office (584 Knowlton Road, Lac Brome) Tuesday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon.
