TOWNSHIPPERS' BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT

Sherbrooke June 25, 2010

Townshippers’ Association’s Board of Directors has elected Gerry Cutting as its new president. Cutting, former vice-president of the Association takes over from Michael van Lierop who is stepping down after four years as president.

In accepting the position, Cutting underscored the importance of the Association’s intergenerational and outreach initiatives to the continued growth of the organization.

“It is an honour for me to have been chosen to act as the President of Townshippers’ Association for the coming year. For 30 years, this Association has given a voice to the diverse needs and aspirations of the English-speaking community of the Townships. It is clear to me that if our community is to grow and prosper in the 21st century we must act now to strengthen our institutions through an intergenerational approach while at the same time reaching out to our neighbours in the French-speaking community. Based on our pioneer heritage, I am convinced that together we can build a future that is rich with promise for all members of our community.”

Cutting becomes the Association’s 17th president in 31 years. Peter Quilliams, who served as president between 2001 and 2004, replaces Cutting in the position of vice-president. The positions of treasurer and secretary remain unchanged, namely Jim Kanner and Melanie Cutting respectively.
