Sunshine Theatre Productions Tour Again!

Sunshine Theatre Productions will tour again this fall, presenting their play “Ourstory” in locations throughout the Townships. Based on the lore and memories of local Townshippers, Ourstory tells the tale of a prospector who, like the Ancient Mariner, is doomed to wander for some unknown reason and “tell” his story.
Ourstory includes a trans-border brothel, Queen Lil’s, the Party Line Murder, the totally bilingual marriage of the Lennons, Lost Nation, the cogniakers of Dunham, the Chaplin curse and the Ballad of Johnny Rhicard, a living legend. With songs by Laura and Sarah, the show is full of local references and most audience members will be sure to recognise these Townships characters.

The play will be produced by Sunshine Theatre Productions and directed by Laura Teasdale. Ourstory will tour to Radio Village Hall for a recording for radio 99.1 FM on Thursday, October 27 at 8 p.m. Families are invited to a matinee on Saturday, October 29 at the Brome Lake Community Centre at 2 p.m. Shows will also take place in Foster (Creek Church) on Friday, October 28 at 7 p.m., in Cowansville on November 5 at 2 p.m., and in Sutton on November 2 at 8 p.m. The play will also be performed at schools in the area. In Stanbridge-East, the show will take place on October 30 at 2 p.m. at the Musée Missisquoi as part of the Tournée Carrefour culturel.

Sunshine Theatre thanks Brome-Missisquoi CLD, Ville de Lac-Brome, Townshippers’ Foundation and Wordfest for supporting this project. Tickets for the show cost $10 for individuals, or $15 for families. For information or reservations, call Doug Hooper at 450-538-1055.

Carrefours Culturels Tour

Townshippers’ Association has been working closely with the CLD Brome-Missisquoi in recent months and the latest launch of the Tournée des Carrefours culturels on October 14 saw the fruition of many months of work.

In the last few months, Kate Wisdom has been working with all of the producers in Lac Brome to form the Brome Lake Arts Coop. The Coop runs the Carrefours culturels de Lac Brome and will organise events in conjunction with the other Carrefours culturels of the region. The opening of the tour will feature an art exhibition by La Bohème at Galerie Knowlton, beginning on October 15. This art exhibition features original work produced by a team of artists in Sutton, Dunham and Cowansville, and features local people in a variety of paintings, drawings and film.

A series of concerts at Radio Communautaire Missisquoi will begin on November 5, at 8 p.m.. These concerts will kick off with a funky Dance Party that will include some very talented local musicians and artists called Electro Funk Dance and Multimedia. The musicians will include: Eugene Brotto, Stanley Lake, Willy Lemaistre, Michael Hynes and Simon Esterez, with Bruno Roy on drums. Come in 70s costumes to win a door prize. During the event, artist Marek Latzman will also perform “live painting”. Tickets cost only $10.

More information about the Carrefours culturels activities in Brome-Missisquoi will be available in next week’s About Townshippers column in the Brome County News… be sure to check it out!
