In recent months, Townshippers’ Association has been working with all of the producers in Lac-Brome to form the Brome Lake Arts Coop. It is this coop that will run the Carrefours culturels de Lac Brome project, organising events in conjunction with the other Carrefours culturels of the region. The opening of the Brome-Missiquoi tour, a vernissage which took place on October 15, featured an art exhibition by La Bohème at Galerie Knowlton. This unique art exhibition includes original work produced by a team of artists in Sutton, Dunham and Cowansville and portrays local people in a variety of paintings and drawings, as well as on film.
The next event in the Brome-Missisquoi Carrefour culturels tour will take place on November 5 at 8 p.m., at which time a series of concerts at Radio Communautaire Missisquoi will begin. This series will kick off with a Funky Dance Party with some very talented local musicians and artists called Electro Funk Dance and Multimedia. The musicians will include: Eugene Brotto, Stanley Lake, Willy Lemaistre, Michael Hynes and Simon Esterez, with Bruno Roy on drums. Come in 70s costume to win the door prize! Artist Marek Latzman will also perform “live painting” during the event. Tickets to the Funky Dance Party cost only $10.
These are only two of the seventeen offerings that will tour the Brome-Missisquoi area in the coming months, touring through seven different venues. The organisers of the tour have worked with Jean-François Hamelin to coordinate where and when the touring show will pass through their community, ensuring that the events will be offered and promoted at the CLD and in the participating towns from now until the end of February. The CRE (Conseil régionale des élus) has provided funding for the tours and each local carrefour is learning how to host the performances and art exhibitions, working closely with Jean-François to ensure success. The CLD and the cultural committee will take a guiding role and support the tour with communications, promotion and marketing.
